Mealworms are a very protein-rich and nourishing delicacy for wild birds. They are particularly appreciated by birds adept at soft foods, such as the blackbird, the robin, the great tit, the blue tit, the sparrow and the starling sansonnet. Mealworms are also very popular during the breeding and nesting period. The chicks find the water only in their food. That is why it is wise to soak the mealworms for 3 to 5 minutes in hot water before offering them.
